Do people honestly think about these sort of things... let alone write about them? Picking your own parents is like... well it shouldn't be a simple thing that's for sure.
Well, okay honestly I have to believe, I do believe, that I'm the way I am because of my parents. In spite of, might be the better phrase because well all know that Sheila Rosenberg isn't one to hinder a child's developmental stages of life. Oh and if you're curious how many stages that might actually entail? Trust me I could draw you a chart... not so much with the pretty diagrams but oooh! There could be little pie piece things.
Like Trivial Pursuit!
Oh... but without the sports questions. I never do good with the sports ones.
Parents and picking who you could have if parent choice was on the menu when you are born I guess- No... really I can't even expect an infant to realize the critical point of their life they are at if they could pick their parents.
This feels like teen angst type question. There are plenty of times when I went through that whole, "You aren't my family! I must be adopted!" Phase, but really? We all do that... I think Xander might still do it. It doesn't actually mean you're willing to part with those parental units... well maybe Xander.
So the question comes down to really, something more like who would you want to support you financially, and emotionally for those first eighteen to twenty years of your life. Those formative years where you learn all of your social graces, what to say or not to say and a few other things that depend on... well your parents.
Let's pick those parental units shall we? Just for fun? Isn't the hot topical family unit Brad Pitt and Angelina? I can't say that they're really ideal... she's already planning on working, and from a girl that had a career mom? It's not as much fun as you'd think it was.
Oh sure it's a lot of "Come on to my house no one's home!" but it also has a lot of problems... like when you bring your girlfriend home for the first time trying to explain that you can be Jewish and a lesbian.
You know what? I changed my mind. Women's prerogative... or Willow Logic, but we can't pick our parents and they can't pick us either. We're just stuck with it that way, so it's not even worth trying to imagine who could have impacted our lives better... or with more money. I mean if Angelina Jolie was my mom? Who would I dream about?
